Research on Chemotherapy-Induced Neurotoxicity Continues at the Institute

The Alexander Natishvili Institute of Morphology is conducting research on the structural and molecular mechanisms of neurotoxicity induced by chemotherapeutic agents.

In 2024, the study evaluated the dose-dependent effects of doxorubicin on the structure of the blood–brain barrier, including its effects on Purkinje cells in the cerebellar cortex.

In 2025, the research was extended to myelin-producing cells using anti-MBP (F6) antibodies. According to the study findings, myelin delamination was observed in the experimental model. In 2026, the research is focused on investigating compensatory responses of neuroglial cells and the processes of demyelination.

The findings have been presented at international scientific forums and published in scientific publications.
