A study conducted within the Gerontology and Palliative Medicine research area of the Alexander Natishvili Institute of Morphology examines the symptoms and needs of palliative oncology patients in Georgia.
The 2024 pilot study revealed the presence of multiple co-occurring symptoms, with fatigue, loss of appetite, and pain identified among the most frequent and severe problems. Fourteen medical centers across Georgia participated in the distribution of the questionnaires developed for the study.
Data collection was completed in 2025. A total of 415 patients participated in the study, and a statistical database was created based on the collected data.
The findings will contribute to a better assessment of palliative care needs in Georgia and help identify priorities for improving symptom management among patients receiving palliative care.
